20 Aug Salesforce Authenticator for Easy and Secure Login
Like most platforms, Salesforce offers two-factor authentication to keep your account safe. Two-factor authentication, sometimes referred to as two-step verification, is a security process in which users provide two different authentication factors to verify their identity. If you’re like me, you’re tired of getting verification codes sent via email or text just to log in to your Salesforce account. As a system administrator, this made it rather challenging to log into other users’ accounts, as I had to wait for them to send me the code before it expired. The solution? Salesforce Authenticator.
What is Salesforce Authenticator?
Salesforce Authenticator is a mobile app that acts as step #2 of the two-factor verification process, the first being your username and password. When you log in to your account from a new device, instead of sending a verification code via email, the Salesforce Authenticator app will send a push notification to your mobile device. From there, you can verify your identity with a simple tap. Upon opening the app, you’ll see the option to use a code that is provided on the screen or you can simply hit the “approved” button on the bottom right corner. After approving the log in, your computer will automatically refresh and you’ll be signed in. That’s it! No more checking emails or obnoxiously searching for codes. As an added bonus for Apple users – you can approve logins directly from your Apple Watch if you have one.
How do I set up my profile in Salesforce to use Salesforce Authenticator?
The process is pretty simple. To set up a user with this type of authentication, follow these steps carefully:
- Download the mobile app from the appropriate app store. Here are the links: Apple Store | Google Play
- In Salesforce, click on your photo on the top right, then click “settings.”
- On the left menu, click “Advanced User Details”.
- Underneath your address (there may be a map), look for a field labeled “App Registration: Salesforce Authenticator”. Click the “connect” button next to it.
After connecting, you will be redirected to a new page. Once you get there, you want to follow these next few steps. Please note, the directions on the screen you are redirected to are the same directions as below:
How do I add my Salesforce account to the Authenticator App?
Now that you’ve configured your settings inside of Salesforce, the last thing you need to do is add your account to the mobile app. To do this:
- Open the Salesforce Authenticator app (linked provided above) and tap + to add your account.
- The app will show you a unique two-word phrase. Enter that phrase on your computer in the given field.
- Press “connect”.
Viola! Your Salesforce account is now connected to Salesforce Authenticator. I hope you enjoy this simple tool that keeps your account safe while making your life easier.
