Selhorst Woodworks is a Las Vegas-based carpentry company that offers unique and completely custom designed woodwork for homes and businesses alike. The owner, Matthew Selhorst, was a successful medical device sales rep in Las Vegas for over eight years. After buying a home and getting involved in his own personal DIY projects around the house, he discovered his passion for the art of woodworking. Consequently, when he wasn’t selling medical devices, he was taking woodworking classes and perfecting his new trade. Less than a year later, Matthew bet on himself and left the medical industry to start Selhorst Woodworks in late 2018. In 2019, Matthew’s wife, Chantel, left her fulltime job as a Project Manager for Henriksen Butler, and joined Selhorst Woodworks as the Design and Operations Director. In 2020, they opened up their first local shop in Southwest Las Vegas and hired several employees to join their team.
Matthew reached out to me because he wanted to establish an online presence for his company outside of his Instagram page and social media outlets. Since his company works primarily with wood, we decided to keep the site light and use lots of natural earth tones. Because Chantel has a background in design, she and I worked together until we perfected the final look and feel.

How we got there
This site was built on WordPress, giving their team the ability to easily login and upload new photos or make changes as needed. With Chantel’s help, we conceptualized and designed the layout from start to finish. The site’s main functionality is powered by an elegant photo gallery that I used to display high-definition photos of their completed jobs in a simple, yet visually appealing manner.
For this project, I successfully:
- Setup a new GoDaddy account on the client’s behalf.
- Purchased the requested domain name for the website.
- Setup a hosting account for the website and setup malware protection with daily backups.
- Updated the DNS to point the domain to the new hosting account.
- Installed WordPress on the server and configured it.
- Designed and customized the layout.
- Resized and compressed all provided images to maximize site speed and optimize pages.
- Integrated a contact form and connected it with the client’s email account.
- Ensured the finished project was mobile friendly and formatted correctly for all mobile devices.
I am continuing to act as the site administrator for Selhorst Woodworks through one of my monthly web support packages. Through this service, I provide necessary content updates and visual changes as requested. I continue to manage the hosting account, provide domain and email support, manage full site & database backups, monitor required updates (theme, plugins and WordPress core), and provide technical support for the client as needed. Since the owners of this site aren’t familiar with web design or WordPress, they look to me as a trusted partner to handle the technical aspects of their business so they can focus on their craft.

Note: sometimes clients make changes to their projects after completion. For the most accurate representation of my work on this project, please refer to the video screencast and screenshots as the live site may have been modified.
